Are you actually pro free speech and pro democracy?
If you're pro free speech but want to punch Nazis marching through your Main Street then maybe you're a hypocrite.
Who decides what's poison? Who decides?
Fighting book banning cannot only work if you get to fight the banning of just your books. Using the excuse of needing to dismantle the patriarchy isn't a good enough reason if you're pro free speech.
You don't have to be pro free speech or liberty, you can say that civil rights and social justice trumps freedom, liberty, and freedom of speech, but be honest about it.
There are surely extremists the world over, including Christians, who put their Bible ahead of freedom, liberty, egalitarianism, or free speech, so you don't have to pretend that you're pro free speech.
You don't even have to say that you're actually pro-democracy. Why? Because democracy is a neutral medium. What the most people vote for goes. That doesn't remotely guarantee enlightenment, humanist, liberal, socially just, values.
So many despotisms who have been liberated of their despot (through American interventionism) have used their democracy to vote in an extremist Mullah. True story. Has happened a bunch.
So, if you want to leverage some good old fashioned Cultural Revolutionary tough love until we reach some sort of progressive utopia, just be a lot more open, honest, transparent, and truthful as to your wants and needs. Be honest, freedom of speech and democracy never turns out right because of the entire popularity thing.
Right?
Life is exactly like high school and nothing's ever changed. Same world. You'll really just need to make us with extreme prejudice, by any means necessary.
