Colophon
Hill Mole is written by Chris Abraham. The first entry went up on May 13, 2005.
Software
From 2005 the site ran on Movable Type 3, a Perl CGI weblog engine backed by MySQL, which wrote every page out as static HTML. When a server upgrade left its CGI unable to run, the site moved to Jekyll and is now published by GitHub Pages. The source is at github.com/chrisabraham/hillmole, and the original Movable Type templates are kept there in the attic.
Text and addresses
Every entry keeps its original address, in the form /archives/YYYY/MM/name.html, along with the old monthly, daily, weekly and category pages and the old feeds.
Design
The layout is the 2005 template: a white column exactly as wide as the 700-pixel banner, on a grey page, with lowercase headings and grey links. Pages are black on white; the button in the banner switches to a dark reading mode, and that choice is kept only in your own browser.
The banner
The creature in the banner is a star-nosed mole.
Feeds and indexes
Atom, RSS 2.0 and RSS 1.0 feeds; the podcast feed; a sitemap; and llms.txt with the full text for AI tools.
