When people use the rhetorical riposte
Apples are, indeed, apples and oranges are, indeed, also oranges; however, when people use the rhetorical riposte false equivalence in the wild, they often actually compare Ambrosias to Winsaps or Valencias to Jaffas: types of apples to types of apples and varieties of oranges to varieties of oranges. But, it's like sports teams: nobody ever compares baseball to football or soccer to basketball, they compare the Yankees to the Red Sox or the Ravens to the 49ers. I'll accept someone saying whatever I am sharing a false equivalence whenever it is, but if I compare agitators from the extreme left and rabble-rouser from the right as being both agents provocateur, this is not a logical fallacy, it's a bonafide, logical, and sound comparison.
